Starleaton is one of Australia’s leading suppliers of technology and consumables to the graphic imaging markets. These include outdoor and indoor signage, display, point-of-purchase, window and floormounted graphics. Since its 2016 acquisition of DES, the company’s reach has extended into packaging, commercial printing, photographic, fine art, CAD/GIS, high-end colour management and soft proofing. With eight locations across the ANZ region from Perth to Auckland and a staff of over 70; Starleaton can justifiably claim to be at or near the top of the league of suppliers to this industry sector.
Starleaton was established in 1978 by my father Peter Eaton and has grown to be Australia and New Zealand’s largest family-run supplier to the Graphic Arts, Sign & Display, CAD and Photo/Fine Art sectors. A purposeful move into digital technologies in 2000, just as flatbed UV printers were emerging, opened up many new markets, with Starleaton’s experience and knowledge bank being further boosted in 2016 by the acquisition of DES.
As wide format digital technology advanced and moved beyond signage into new areas such as packaging and textiles, so has Starleaton’s product and service offering. Today, we offer complete solutions to the graphic disciplines that use wide format digital inkjet equipment, software and materials – backed by an unparalleled level of expertise and combined staff knowledge amounting to scores, probably hundreds, of years!
Starleaton is not just a supplier of goods and we do not see ourselves as a ‘supermarket’ for everything. We are more like your friendly local grocer who always has the freshest, most high-quality produce backed by a passion for service and a personal touch. We carry deep stockholdings at all of our eight branches and sameday delivery is not a problem – it’s a pleasure.
Advice comes in many levels of usefulness but we know that, when it comes to recommending the right choice of printer, RIP, ink, media and finishing combination; we promise that the advice will be technically and commercially sound for your business and applications.
You may find dealing with Starleaton different from most other suppliers and we are different. Yes, we do have online ordering but you are always dealing with real people who are part of our ‘family’ culture and treat customers as members of that extended ‘family.’ Whether by phone, personal calling, at trade shows or industry events; the people you engage with are committed, passionate, capable, caring and more than ready to travel the extra mile or more with you. This approach is not big corporate grandstanding because we act and behave like a big family, not a large bureaucratic corporation. Our growth over the years has been largely because of this attitude or, as we say: ‘You grow, we grow.’
We test all our materials for compatibility to aqueous, eco-solvent, latex and UV curable inkjet processes and for most we have downloadable ICC profiles or can create professional custom profiles for you. We take away the time-consuming aspect of testing, and this ultimately saves you money by reducing waste, guaranteeing consistency and reliability of all the products offered.
Starleaton distributes equipment and consumable for global leading partners such as ZUND, Neschen, Epson, EFI VUTEk, Roland, Oki, Flexa, G & O Friedrich, Falconboard, Brett Martin, ConVerd, Oppboga, Hahnemühle, Awagami and Breathing Colour - with new materials regularly added to our range. With our large conversion facility in Sydney and roll slitting capabilities Australia wide we are able to offer custom cut orders that help keep end user costs down.
Operating as a true systems integrator, Starleaton offers the best software and colour management applications we know of from EFI, ORIS, ColorGate, Ergosoft, Onyx, X-Rite, Eizo and Just Normlicht. Our team are constantly spending time overseas at trade fairs, courses and conventions, learning new technologies and skills to bring back to our Australian and New Zealand customers.
We have recruited both local and international talent of the highest caliber – don’t be surprised to hear a European sounding accent alongside Aussie and Kiwi! Recently, we have committed to a government-backed training initiative we have named ‘Jump Start’ to get non-tertiary inclined students into meaningful and high technology roles that are fun and rewarding.
As Group CEO, I am very proud of what our family company has achieved since Peter’s humble homebased beginnings nearly 40 years ago. Now that DES has merged fully into Starleaton, we are focused on demonstrating to the market that there is so much more than just being your supplier. We want to be your long term business partner. This was recently demonstrated by being one of the largest exhibitors at PacPrint 2017. However, we will never lose sight of the fact we as a team, have grown because of you, our customers and our philosophy is still: You grow, we grow. With plans for further expansion underway, I hope you will take the time to allow one of our team to give you an insight into what makes partnering with Starleaton such a wise decision.
